Why do you only offer two flavors of cupcakes?

We believe in doing it well and doing it right! That being said, we want to keep the simplicity of our offerings for your choices but also to keep the quality of our products. Some may also ask that about our singular buttercream frosting - but wait until you try and you’ll see why we’ve perfected it!

What is a home-based food business?

Cottage Food Operation (CFO) allows residents of California to prepare approved food products in their home kitchen for direct sales to the public. All food products sold by Cottage Food Operators (CFO) must be listed on the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Cottage Food Operations (Approved Food List) and prepared, packaged and labeled per the California Health and Safety Code. Simple Cakes is a Class A CFO (Direct Sales) - Permit #PT0328112.

How come you can’t deliver my order?

We’re a pretty small, family-run business based in Oakland, CA (and we currently have one family vehicle). That being said, we unfortunately cannot guarantee delivery for every order. If we are able to deliver within the 25 radius of Oakland ($30 fee), we will communicate and coordinate with you directly. We always want to meet our customers IRL!

Your kids are adorable, but I don’t want them touching my cupcakes. Are they really the ones baking my order?

No. Unfortunately JJ and Zachary will not be baking or preparing your order. To comply with our permitting, they observe with PPE but are not the ones baking. They sure do make cute marketing models though, ‘am I right?

I see some cool toppers on your website and Instagram. Do you supply those too?

We unfortunately do not! In another effort to keep things simple, we only offer cupcakes. However, we have curated themed lists of toppers for you here. Check them out - they are all Amazon-able 😉
